Copyright and Reprint Guidelines

The PRC's web site contains many copyrighted documents that may be copied and distributed for nonprofit, educational purposes only. The text of any document may not be altered without express authorization of the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse.

The information contained on our web site should be used as an information source and not as legal advice. The PRC's web site contain information about federal laws as well as some California-specific information. Laws in other states may vary. Overall, our information is applicable to consumers nationwide.

Distributing and Reprinting PRC Information (Paper Format):

The PRC is glad to let those who want to redistribute the information on our web site as long as the following guidelines are followed. If you want to reprint information from our site and if it's for a non-profit or educational purpose, we usually allow you to do so without charge. If you want to reuse our information as part of a commercial endeavor, we may require a licensing fee. Determinations are made on a case-by-case basis.

The PRC does NOT allow our publications to be posted on other web sites, either in part or in full.

If you want to request permission to reprint and distribute a fact sheet, identity theft quiz, or other publications on our site, please contact PRC Director Beth Givens by email.

We require those who have received permission to redistribute PRC information to please include the following statement on it if you are distributing it as a handout or in a written publication:
