More than 250 people in 30 states were victims of scams perpetrated on by two New York residents.  The women posted phony Craigslist ads for nonexistent jobs and apartments to gather the personal information of victims between February of 2010 and October of 2011.  That information was then used to obtain fraudulent state income tax returns, bank loans, and credit cards.  More than $75,000 was fraudulently obtained.  Early in 2011, workers in the Buffalo office of the state Department of Taxation and Finance discovered that hundreds of state tax refunds were being claimed from only about 10 addresses in the county.  The two women were indicted by a grand jury on grand larceny and scheme to defraud charges.  The women face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
