One of the most rewarding aspects of our work is hearing from individuals who we have assisted. Here is some recent feedback:

  • With the help of your organization, I found out about the OCR/HHS agency to file my complaint in the first place. (from an individual who filed a medical privacy complaint with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service's Office of Civil Rights, upon the advice of the PRC. OCR investigated, and the healthcare facility changed its practices.) 1/28/13

  • To all the great consumer advocates at PRC, I just want you to know that I think your organization's videos and website are excellent. For ten years, I have been teaching an online course called "Consumer Law" for a community college. I use your website extensively for lessons on privacy, ID theft, and debt collection rights. The videos are very helpful for engaging students in learning important and valuable life lessons. I just wanted to reach out and say Thanks! I appreciate your dedication to consumer advocacy and your assistance in allowing me to teach these topics in an engaging way. (10/8/12)

  • Thanks for taking the time to read through my email. It means a lot to me and I will follow up on what you have told me....You are awesome. (5/15/2012)
  • You folks are an amazing resource. I'm going to recommend that everyone read your site material. (3/15/2012)
  •
Please know how very thankful I am for your site. It has guided me through each step of this [situation] and identify theft... Your information has given me confidence and stability in handling step after step. (12/22/2011)

I came across your site browsing and ended up spending the day here because I am so impressed of your accuracy and in-depth knowledge.  I send your staff my biggest compliments...Not even the FTC or  Attorney Generals have such accurate information. (12/05/2011)

Your web site has always been my favorite for privacy and protection from financial abuse. I check many other resources, but yours is the most user friendly, factual information that I can find.  Thank you. (June 14, 2011)

  • I admire your firm dedication to "good works" very much and thank all those at the PRC for all their hard work. (4/11/2011)

  • I greatly appreciate what you do.  Thanks to your site and the information there, I have been able to remove my info from 99 percent of all the data brokers out there, which has helped protect my privacy a little bit more. (04/18/2011)

  • I've been using Chronology of Data Breaches to check for other large breaches from 2005 to Epsilon. It's a wonderful, valuable tool. Thanks for maintaining it. (4/7/2011))

  • Thanks so much for your quick and thorough analysis. It's helpful in my research. I appreciate your response greatly. (4/4/2011)

  • Thanks so much for letting me know [about credit reports and debt reporting! That information helps a lot and thanks for the links! I really appreciate it! (01/26/2011)

  • Your privacyrights.org info on background checks is amazing.  Thanks so much for providing all the info in such a succinct format. (9/29/2010)

  • I would just like to give you all a very large thank you and am very grateful for your very timely responses and extent of help and information you have provided. It’s nice to know that there are people and sites out there that provide this help on your site and also on a personal level with e-mails such as this. (8/23/2010)

  • Great informative website - keep up the valuable work! (8/20/2010)

  • Thank you for getting back to me and for the excellent advice.  I'll do my part to make the complaints.  Keep up the good work! (5/11/10)

  • I just wanted to thank you guys for providing such an excellent resource.  I've been slowly getting myself removed from mailing lists and cutting down on my junk mail, and the information you've provided has been greatly helpful. (4/14/2010)

  • Over the fifteen or more years I've known about your organization I have always promoted you as THE organization to check out when dealing with anything related to privacy. (from a consumer educator, 4/7/2010)

  • I'm hugely appreciative you guys are doing what you do. It would have taken me forever to get the kind of clean answer you've sent me. Thank you very much and keep up the good work! (3/15/10)

  • Your website is an eye-opener as to the frequency and scope of these database breaches.  It is unfortunate that the mainstream media does not publicize this information to the general public. (02/20/2010)

  • Thanks for putting a great website together. It is very informative. (1/27/10)

  • Thank you very much, it's good to know that there's someone out there looking out for the interests of consumers. (1/11/10)

  • Thank you so much for some kind of direction!I truly appreciate your help during [this] frustrating  problem. (12/18/09)

  • That was very informative!  Thank you so much. ...  You've honestly been more help than any other person I've spoken with and I truly thank you for going out of your way. (10/28/09)

  • Interesting times, but the watchdogs of the world, like you, certainly give comfort. (8/5/09)

  • Having spent the better part of two days scouring the Internet to curb the easy availability of extraneous information on myself and my family, I wish to express my gratitude for your efforts, and the excellent resources you provide, as a public service. (6/16/09)

  • Wow, I so appreciate your responding with a personal, tailored reply! (and so quickly!) I'm very impressed and grateful, thank you. (2/14/09)

  • I just want to thank you for [your data breaches web page]. Awareness is the first step in helping people realize how vulnerable they are, so they can take steps to ensure privacy better. ... I'm a lady whose life was literally destroyed by a stalker who accessed information such as the data breaches contain. I'm also a participant in an Address Confidentiality Program. (2/14/09)

  • I have made your website a favorite on my computer. ... I feel more secure knowing my rights [about debt collection law]. I have shared the information on your site with friends and relatives in this same situation. It seems the worse the economy gets the more vicious the collection agencies get. (02/02/2009)

  • Not until I emailed you and you graciously replied with hope and contact information [for Company X's privacy officer] did things start happening. ... Thank you so much for doing what you do and especially for the calming words you gave me when I needed to be calm. (1/15/09)

  • I’m grateful for your help. I had spent hours trying to navigate to the source for accounting of my [medical] records access, then received only a form letter in reference to my written complaint. You directed me to the right one, and I’ve printed out the form and mailed my request. (12/12/08)

  • Wow... Thank you so much! I think people underestimate how important it is to maintain our personal privacy. Privacy in general is eroding away and people just don't get it. Thank you for your time. I realize that you have a lot on your plate for a very important cause. (11/19/08)

  • The PRC is such a wonderful resource and you can't imagine the impact your work has on my practice in victim rights. (1/10/08)

  • I read a great deal of online materials pertaining to privacy, but I refer to your site quite frequently to keep abreast of data breaches. It is an outstanding resource, IMO. Keep up the good work. (3/26/07)

  • Thank you for making this information available in plain English. You have highlighted several issues that I have been wondering about for ages and must now do something about... (3/3/07)

  • Thank you so much for your exceptionally helpful answer! I will certainly contact [Company X] and let them know of our experience. I am so impressed with the PRC! (10/9/06)

  • Thank you for your assistance. I appreciate the time your organization spends on this issue. I will be sure to contact the FTC and my legislators. I am also sharing your email with my family members. (10/6/06)

  • Thank you very much ... for responding to my request and for the helpful information you have provided.  I will continue to pursue this using your links and I hope enough people will take action to relieve us all of this deplorable practice: selling and exposing personal information. [complaint about online information brokers] (10/4/06)

  • I received your message. Thank you so much for the information. At least now I have some steps to follow to correct the problem. I would have never had the time to find all of the great information you've given me. Once again, Thank You. (9/25/06)

  • You have a wonderful organization that is making a great contribution to all. (8/4/06)

  • Just a quick note to say 'hi' and thank you for the wonderful site you and your team have developed.  I'm a security and compliance engineer and promote your site with clients and our team when possible.  It's a great resource for us in the field and look forward to additional information being added this year.  Thanks for making this available to us out in the field trying to protect identities and key assets. (7/9/06)

  • Thank you so much for the tremendous amount of information you provided me with.  Hopefully now that I am more onto these privacy infringements, I will be one more person that can be part of making something happen. I will be contacting my elected officials and the FTC as you suggested. Thank you again so much for the time and effort you put into your reply to me. (7/2/06)

  • Wow, thanks for the speedy response time on forwarding this information I was seeking. I'm so lucky to have you as a contact person, whenever I need expertise and/or advice on a specific topic or legal questions. I greatly appreciate you taking out the time to respond to my email inquiry. (3/15/06)

  • I really like your website!  You have done such extensive work and you've just made my life a lot easier!!  Bless you!! (3/14/06)

  • I teach financial management classes for the military and I talk about ID Theft.  Thanks for these awesome resources. (3/13/06)

  • Thank you for putting up this site.  It is beautifully laid out and easy to understand. I appreciate the information contained in it. (3/8/06)

  • I conduct money management classes (basis budgeting, managing credit, insurance, recordkeeping, etc.) and in the past have duplicated the Privacy Survival Guide and Privacy Basics - 1 and 1A.  Back in the mid-90s when I first learned of your website, I specifically implemented various suggestions you had, including advice about social security numbers not being on your license (able to opt out), refusing to include identifying information on credit card receipts, refusing to give my social security number to the many who asked for it, not filling out those grocery store applications for discount cards unless they allowed me to skip whatever questions I wanted to. I have been teaching money management for over fifteen years, and I have always provided a few basic suggestions along these lines to consumers.  Now it is so complicated with increased use of technology, especially the Internet, that it makes sense to provide folks with something that is comprehensive, and your publications are very comprehensive. (2/3/06)

  • I appreciate that your organization is available to help people out. The panic I felt over the weekend I e-mailed you was pretty intense. Being able to contact you helped me feel as though I were at least able to be proactive. Keep up the good work!! (1/27/06)

  • Thank you for your very kind reply! You provide a truly valuable service. I wish you every success with your work. (1/17/06)

  • Thank you for the info.  There are so many fronts that we as individuals are losing ground on as we continue to digitize and globalize.  You and your organization are very important.  I am calling organizations like yours "Progessive Conservatives" since what we want is very conservative yet forward thinking hence the progressive part. (11/2/05)

  • Just so you know, I don't donate very often. In this case though, I see a strong need to communicate privacy information and no one else doing it. I especially like the chronology of breaches. I have referred to it several times in related presentations I've given in my job. (10/30/05)

  • Here's a small donation in appreciation of the help and information you gave regarding the [X online game company] scanning players' storage devices while we play. I'm taking your advice which includes contacting the FTC to get their take on it. Thanks again. (8/18/05)

  • Thank you very much for the response. Thus far you have been the only agency that has responded. Both times that I have contacted your agency, I have received well thought out and clear instruction on what steps to follow. Thanks again. (8/11/05)

  • I just wanted to take a minute to express my appreciation for the excellent service that [you provided me. You] went the extra mile in helping me to get through to Company X so that they can stop their mailings coming to me with my social security number visible on the envelope.  It is by means of her care and concern, that the problem will be resolved soon. (7/22/05)

  • Thank you so very much for this information.  It really helps.  As you know, I did not have a clue how to start looking for "who had what" on my medical history.  Thanks to you I have some wonderful places to start. With sincere appreciation... (6/30/05)

  • Back in April I e-mailed 10 different organizations for info on their sites. Only you replied. Thank you! I got an A+ on my final paper. I also found that you have a very well thought of web site based on the number of other sites I went to that had links to yours. Congrats. (6/12/05)

  • Just wanted to take a moment to thank you for such an informative web site.  I find it to be very interesting and insightful. (6/4/05)

  • I recently read a newspaper article that referred to your website, so I've recently been reading through your Fact Sheets.  They are excellent!  Thanks for all your work. (3/21/05)

  • Thank you for your attention to this! It certainly has helped me in how I can approach new physicians, etc. I am grateful that you have taken the time to answer my question. It is reassuring to know that there are people such as yourselves on the side of the average person! Again, thank you VERY much, and if I have any more questions regarding privacy, I would sure like to call upon your expertise! (3/10/05)

  • Just a brief word of thanks for the great, helpful website. As one of the thousands burned recently by D.C.-area scammers, websites like yours help us figure out what's going on, what we should do, and what to expect. Thank you very much. (2/25/05)

  • Mr. X of company Y called me last Friday evening.  He stated that this issue was resolved, and that their collection agency had been instructed to desist.  He also said that he is having Company Z's "internal investigators" looking into why my initial contact with them failed to prevent the dunning.  The conversation was very brief.  He is certainly someone to keep on your "valuable contacts" list. As I have told you before, I do not believe that I could have settled this important matter this satisfactorily without your able assistance.  I am very, very grateful. Again, thank you (and your organization) very much! (2/1/05)

  • First I want to wish you a happy new year!!! I said I would inform you of my results of getting to review my [government agency] records. After years of trying -- 9 years to be exact -- I finally received a letter from the [agency] that they have my files for me to review. So they set up an appointment for me to do so. I want to thank you and your organization!!! Please keep up the great work!!!! Thanks. (1/4/05)

  • Thank you, again, for your help in removing my information from [genealogy web site]. I appreciate your effort in composing the letter sent to the FTC and [genealogy web site] reps, and your communication with me throughout the process. Your organization was undoubtedly the key link that provided a successful outcome. I am grateful! (9/2/04)

  • Thank you so much for your prompt and thorough response. Your information has proven to be useful and relieving. I may follow up on the Privacy Act request and thanks for the good wishes on my search. (8/10/04)

  • I sincerely appreciate your sharing of information on reporting identity theft.  Having knowledge on the steps of what to do in a case of private information exposure does give me some comfort. Your words of encouragement at an uneasy time were welcome too. (5/20/04)
